Museums
The Marine Museum
This museum is in Amagansett and has extensive exhibits
featuring whaling artifacts donated by local families and dioramas of the various
fishing techniques unique to this area. Tales of whales, pirates and offshore
mysteries are shared by Captain John; outside, children can climb on the "jungle-gym"
trawler.
The Boat Shop
Visitors may explore maritime history and ecology aboard one of our vessels.
Meanwhile, children frolic on the sloping lawn, playing Colonial games such
as graces and hoop-rolling.
Clinton Academy
Clinton Academy in East Hampton, is a charming one-room
schoolhouse built in 1731, the first school in New York State; has the original
Dominy clock and the Museum's curator, Barbara Driver, has some neat interactive
activities for kids.
Visitors are invited to write on slates or with a
quill pen, in a class session circa 1860.
